I don’t know if it’s the changing weather or what but a lot of venues seem to be waiting until the very last minute to announce events. I will do my best to keep the web version of the listings updated even if things are announced after the email goes out, so check back before you head out on the town. Musicians and venues: email bellinghammusicdigest@gmail.com if you’ve got news you want included!

Picks of the Week:
Yogoman is bringing the full power of the Burning Band for one last big end of summer party at the Kulshan trackside spot on Wednesday. Wednesday also features two touring acts in completely different genres, with some top notch jazz happening at the Sylvia Center courtesy of the Jazz Center of Bellingham, while Flint Flossy and Turquoise Jeep bring hip hop to the Shakedown. Boundary has legendary songwriter Jim Page on Thursday night. High Step Society was a big hit at Downtown Sounds so if you want more, they are back at the Buffalo on Thursday. If you’re looking to bang your head check out the stacked metal bill headlined by Year of the Cobra at the Shakedown on Friday. Also on Friday there’s a tribute to the late, great singer/ songwriter Nanci Griffith happening at the Honeymoon featuring a bunch of excellent locals1. Spine Readers is a newish project by Sean Meyer (known for his work with Scary Monster and the Super Creeps, or the City of Lost Children) and they are headlining a four band bill at Gruff on Saturday2. What are you excited to see? Let everyone know in the comments.
News and Upcoming Events:
1000 Acres has joined the ranks of venues requiring vaccination for indoor shows. They are also adding some outdoor shows, starting with jazz this Thursday night.
The Beach Store Cafe on Lummi Island has announced they are closing. I was fortunate enough to play a few shows there with one of my bands and was always impressed by the attentive, enthusiastic audiences and by how well the staff treated the musicians. They will be missed.
It’s not quite on this week’s schedule but given how popular their shows have been in the past, I feel I should mention that you might want to get tickets now for the Red Elvises, Wednesday the 15th at the Shakedown.
Menace Brewing is going to be stepping up their live music game. They’re doing a Live Music Week with four shows this week. Musicians interested in playing there should email Ryan.menacebrewing@gmail.com with booking inquiries.
New Band of the Week:
I’m going to be starting a new feature in this space spotlighting one new band or musical project each week. The basic guideline is that they shouldn’t have performed in Bellingham before March 2020. The goal is to introduce the music lovers of Bellingham to some of the new names you might see in the listings. Email bellinghammusicdigest@gmail.com if you would like to be included.
This week our spotlight is on La Fever Dream. That’s them in the picture up at the top. They’re a “foot-stomping Americana” trio featuring Taylor LaFever on guitar and vocals, Will Moore on upright bass and vocals, and Rick Baunach on harmonica and accordion. You may have seen them busking at the Farmers’ Market or in Fairhaven, or at venues like All that Jazz or Paws for a Beer. They list Tyler Childers, Shakey Graves, and the Fabulous Stringdusters as influences, so if that sounds good to you, give them a follow on Facebook and keep an eye out for them around town!

Conflict of interest disclosure: I’m good friends and formerly bandmates with some of the folks who are organizing this.
