Picks of the Week:
The big event of the week is the Bellingham Irish Festival, which has a great mix of events. All the shows marked with * above are part of the festival. The big ticketed shows are the ones at Sylvia Center and the Shakedown, but there’s also a bunch of other shows all over town, plus workshops and sessions. Check out the whole schedule here1.There are also some big touring acts in town this week, including Wilco, Pedro the Lion, Flamingosis, and Joshy Soul. For local, non-Irish stuff, some of the highlights include two shows with ELK and a fundraiser for the street trees of Happy Valley, featuring music by The Atlantics. If you want to bring your dog, Paws for a Beer has a bunch of music this weekend as part of their Dogtoberfest party. Be sure to comment and let us know what you are looking forward to!
New Artist of the Week:
Cold Sludge is the studio project of Richard Rossi, who plays all the instruments and records everything himself at home, sometimes using an old school Tascam 4 track. It’s in the tradition of prolific lo-fi folk and rock acts like Guided by Voices or Microphones/ Mount Eerie, but with better sound quality and lots of twists and surprises. Check out his creative, melodic stuff on Bandcamp or Spotify, and keep an eye out for possible live shows next summer! (You can also catch Richard as a member of the Blood Capsules.)

Thursday Irish Session, Uisce, 7-9:30 pm
Saturday Singer’s Saturday, Fireside, 3:30-6:30 pm

Tuesday jazz at Makeworth Market, 7 pm

News and Upcoming Events:
Musical events at the Honeymoon are moving inside for the winter, which means you’re going to need proof of vax or a negative test. If you don’t feel comfortable going inside the patio will be heated and they’ll have speakers out there so you can still hear the music.
Thousand Acres is closing sooner than originally announced because they are just running out of cider, so their last event will be a drag show this Thursday night with Betty Desire.
K-Pop Chicken and Beer on Railroad has started up an open mic on Thursday nights. (Thanks reader Joe V. for the tip!)
Drummer Julian MacDonough has started up a new series of high quality jazz concerts, happening every Tuesday night at Makeworth Market.
Mount Saturn have announced they are heading into the studio to start work on their first full length. Looking forward to hearing that!
Analog Brass are heading on tour around Washington this week. On Sunday they’ll be busking around Seattle so tell your Seattle friends to follow them on social media to find out where.
That’s all the news for this week! As always if you think there’s anything the music community needs to know, send it to bellinghammusicdigest@gmail.com, or leave a comment below.
Oh, and just for the heck of it, here’s that playlist one more time. I think we’ve got pretty much every currently active local who is on Spotify:
Conflict of interest disclosure: I’m playing a show as part of this festival.
You do an outstanding Job! Thanks for the listing! Andy "Badd Dog"
