Well, I’m going to go ahead and put this newsletter to bed for now. All the information you’ve come to expect will now be in the column appearing in Cascadia Daily News from now on. One update on that is that after this week it will be moving from Thursdays to Wednesdays, so that’s when to check. I’m hugely grateful to Cascadia Daily for this opportunity and optimistic that this change is going to allow me to bring local music news to a wider audience!
Anything that won’t fit in the column or that comes out after my deadline will be posted to Twitter so follow along there or just bookmark it if you don’t use Twitter.
I also use Pinterest to keep a board of notable local releases each year. Here’s this year’s so far, and last year’s.
If there’s anything missing from this Spotify playlist of currently active local musicians, let me know.
If you’re not already, make sure you’re also following Breakout! They’re doing a neat job of longer reviews and profiles.
I want to repeat my two little bits of advice for musicians who want people to find their music:
If you’re posting music to Bandcamp, tag it with “Bellingham”
If you’re publicizing an event don’t just make a social media “story”, make an “event”. A big part of how I put together the calendar is just scrolling through Facebook’s “Events Near Me”.
Now, on to the thank yous! When I started this newsletter I had no idea if anyone would actually read it. The way it rapidly found a engaged and appreciative audience was incredibly gratifying. So, first and foremost, thanks to everyone who has been reading. Extra special thanks to everyone who chipped in for a paid membership, knowing full well that they weren’t getting any extra content for that. (If you got an annual membership you should see a prorated refund soon.) Also thank you if you shared it on social media, told a friend, or otherwise spread the word. Thank you if you sent in news or even just reached out to say hi. Huge gratitude to everyone who let me use their photos, especially Leland Anderson for his numerous contributions. Most of all thanks to all the musicians and venues for making it so I have something to write about. Big things coming this year, I think!
Finally, just for fun, I went back and found the Facebook post (from the Bellingham Open group) that started it all. Funny how these things work out sometimes.
OK, that’s it. Thanks again for reading, see you out there!
