I shared this playlist last week, and was then immediately deluged with suggestions for acts that were missing. So here’s the expanded edition, clocking in at just over 4 hours. It’s roughly organized by genre so if you see something you know you like, check out the ones around it. Thanks to everyone who sent suggestions!

Picks of the Week:
As the weather turns and the outdoor venues start to pack up, there are inevitably going to be fewer events, but there still ought to be something for everybody. You’ve still got at least one more week with some of the stalwarts of Boundary, and one more show at Kulshan Trackside. If you like The Dip and didn’t get tickets in time, they’ve added another show on Saturday night. The BJ Block trio at Aslan on Friday would be a good bet for jazz fans, and GLYF on Saturday night will be great for jam band lovers. As of now I’m not seeing any events on the calendar for Sunday or Tuesday other than the scheduled weekly gigs, so if you know of anything leave a comment below:
New Artist of the Week:
Jay Williams is a producer who makes cool indie electronica inspired by classics like Portishead and DJ Shadow, with some modern twists. He’s keeping up a busy release schedule, including a dark ambient LP scheduled to be out in time to soundtrack your Halloween haunted houses. No live shows yet but he’s open to the idea, so hit him up if you have a show that would be right for him. Here’s a linktree with all of his info and lots of music to check out.
Ongoing weekly events:
Wednesday Aaron Guest on piano, Boundary, 6 pm
Wednesday Open Mic, Honeymoon, 8:30 pm
Thursday Irish Session, Uisce, 7-9:30
Saturday Singer’s Saturday, Fireside, 3:30-6:30
Sunday Robert Sarazin Blake, 5 pm online show: singer-songwriter with guests
Sunday The Devilies, Kulshan on James St., 5 pm: Irish/ folk
Monday Irish Session, Greene’s Corner, 6-8 pm
Tuesday Lindy at the Leo, 6 pm: swing dancing
Tuesday Out of the Ashes, Boundary, 3:30- 5:30 pm
Tuesday The Local Jam 102.3 7-8: local music on the radio
Tuesday DJ Yogoman, Kulshan Trackside, 7-10 pm: reggae, hula hooping, etc.
News and Upcoming Events:
The big, sad news is that 1000 Acres is going to be closing its doors soon. The challenges of financially recovering from the pandemic were just too much. They were great hosts of live music so catch one last show there if you can, and be sure to thank Jenny and crew for everything they’ve done!
On a brighter note, the return of students to campus is bringing new musical activity. AS Pop will be hosting shows this year and the Underground Coffeehouse will have open mic nights on Tuesdays and concerts on Wednesdays. However, at least to start they are going to have limited capacity and will be asking for RSVPs, with priority given to Western students.
Skylark’s is moving music back inside, they will be having shows on Saturdays from 8-10.
Whatcom Talk has a look at what’s going on with the Bellingham Symphony and a preview of their season.
If you’ve ever wanted to play kids music on the ukulele, Amber Darland is offering an online class guaranteed to give you the skills you need to do that.
Bellingham Irish Festival is just around the corner. I’ll do a full preview next week but you might want to check out the schedule now and start making plans.
Manatee Commune has announced a Wild Buffalo show on 11/5, but unfortunately he’s also saying this may be one of his last performances. Apparently he has moved on from music over the last few years and might just be wrapping it up. If you’ve enjoyed his stuff in the past, make sure to grab tickets to help celebrate everything he accomplished.
