Picks of the Week:
Again, expect plenty of cancellations and postponements this week, check with the venues before you head out, make sure you’re being as safe as possible. I’ll post updates to Twitter as they come in. I’ve left a few things on the calendar that were already postponed and just crossed them out, to let you know not to bother showing up for those.
That said, there is some good stuff still on the schedule. Fans of the funky jams are all pretty excited for the return of Mind’s Eye, and Aslan is a nice big space where you don’t have to get too close to your neighbor. Greene’s Corner is also nice and roomy and there’s some sweet blues there on Saturday. If you really want to rock out you’ve got dueling tribute band choices on Friday night, depending on if you prefer AC/DC or Blink-182.
New Artist of the Week:
Worldwide Levitation are a new group but all the members are veterans of other bands. They just finished a demo which you can check out on Bandcamp. They’ve got Ruth Davidson on guitar and vocals, Steven Arbuckle on bass, Kelsey Tribble on drums and vocals. They describe their style as “blunt force birdsong”, which I interpret to mean it’s noisy and forceful but with some strong melodic elements as well. I hear hints of Shellac, maybe some Mission of Burma in there. They don’t have any public live shows on the schedule but I’ll make sure to let you know when they do, I’m looking forward to seeing them!

News and Upcoming Events:
The Bellingham Folk Festival is coming right up, from the 20th to the 23rd! Lineup should be out today.
Glitchlette dropped a new track, which she aptly describes as sounding like “music from the club scene in the Matrix”.
Kazmyn has a new song out and is working on an EP. Breakout has an in-depth review, or you can see her for yourself at Skylark’s on Friday.
Rich Arithmetic got some sweet blog love this week, with the album SHIFTINGEARS named to the top 25 albums of the year by Poprock Record. If you enjoy classic guitar-based power pop sounds you should definitely check that album out if you haven’t already.
KZAX put out a list of their Top 10 local albums of 2021. I thought it was a pretty good list. I could think of a few things I might add (off the top of my head: Spine Readers, Wandering Seas, WilldaBeast, the aforementioned Rich Arithmetic), but I’m not sure what I would drop. I guess that’s why I didn’t try to make a Top 10 list. What do you think of their picks? Post your lists in the comments.
