Picks of the Week:
The Jazz Center of Bellingham has put together quite the string of Wednesday night shows, and Matt Williams looks like another winner. Friday marks the last beer garden Super Funks show and I’m sure they’ll pull out all the stops. On the punk and alternative side of things, the bill at the Shakedown on Friday looks fantastic. The Wild Buffalo has a super cool hip hop lineup that same night. Saturday night brings something really unusual to the listings in the form of some top notch Indian classical music happening at the Firehouse. What are you heading out to see? Let us know in the comments:
New Artist of the Week: Checker Bloom is a brand new group, with all of the members being new to the Bellingham scene. Singer/ guitarist Bryan Hatchell has played some solo shows and now that he’s been joined by bassist Martin Pittis, drummer Jonny Roberts, and guitarist Greg Mikels you can expect to see them out playing full band shows soon. Bryan mentions the Growlers, Arctic Monkeys, and Thin Lizzy as comparison points, which sounds right to me. The guitars blend noise and jangle (and the occasional harmonized lead), the melodies are catchy, and the band has lots of dynamic range and interplay. If that sounds interesting to you, check out their demo, and follow them on Instagram for show news. Hopefully we’ll be seeing them in these listings soon!

News and Upcoming Events:
HodWall Productions is a new production company looking to create cool and distinctive arts and music events. Their first show is the event this Friday at the Firehouse. It’s exciting to see folks finding ways to make shows happen and it looks like they’ve got a really solid team together.
The Wild Buffalo is going to be making an effort to do some more locals only type shows. In fact, we are looking at doing a few presented by this very newsletter. If your band has solid local draw and wants to be part of this, email bellinghammusicdigest@gmail.com and I’ll see what I can do.
