It’s an interesting time for the Bellingham music scene. After a year or more with no live music, things are finally starting to happen again. Unfortunately in that year we’ve lost two publications (What’s Up and Entertainment News Northwest) that used to provide a lot of information about what was going on. Cascadia Weekly is still only publishing once every two weeks. People want to know what’s happening but slogging through Facebook events and venue web sites can be a pain. With this site I am aiming to provide concise and helpful listings of all the live music that’s happening in Bellingham each week. There will also be album and show reviews and general music scene news. If this is useful for folks and we can build a solid base of subscribers we may be able to add more detailed coverage as we go. For now all the posts will be free.
So why do I think I’m the one to do this? I’ve been in Bellingham for over 17 years now and have played in all sorts of bands. I think I’ve played most of the venues in town at one point or another. I’m a big fan and supporter of live music and I firmly believe some of the greatest musical experiences happen not in arenas but in small rooms where true communities are built. I don’t have a ton of writing experience but I like to think I’m decent at it.
A few promises:
#1 I’m going to do my very best to get listings out every week.
#2 I will share my opinions but I will make sure to cover all genres, even the ones I may not personally care for.
#3 If I’m friends with (or in) an act that’s being covered, I will disclose this, to allow you to take my opinions with all necessary grains of salt.
For now I’m going to keep the focus squarely on music happening in Bellingham, with occasional mentions of particularly compelling out of town events. If you want to make sure your event is listed or you have some juicy news to share, email bellinghammusicdigest@gmail.com. Thanks for reading!
